Hafsa Sultan Caravanserai in Marmaris

The Hafsa Sultan Caravanserai is located in the historic part of the Marmaris resort, on a narrow street leading to the city center. It was built in 1545 by the Ottoman ruler Suleiman the Magnificent. Initially, it served as a place to accommodate the royal troops during the campaign to Rhodes.

The Hafsa Sultan Caravanserai is one of the most significant historical sites in Marmaris. It was built on the orders of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and named after his mother, Hafsa Sultan. This architectural structure, located in the old part of the city at the foot of the castle, has served important functions throughout the centuries. Over different periods of its history, the caravanserai was used as a resting and lodging place for travelers, soldiers, and merchants passing through the city.

Today, it is not only a historical monument but also one of the symbols of Marmaris. Inside, you can find eight rooms that have preserved the atmosphere of the Ottoman Empire era. The arches of the galleries on the first and second floors lead to the inner courtyard, which often hosts festivals, cultural events, and folk celebrations. Walking here, you can imagine how, centuries ago, the caravanserai was an important stop for travelers.

Entry to the caravanserai is free, and its grounds are open to visitors around the clock. Around the building, there are many restaurants and cafes where you can relax after the tour and try local dishes. Nearby is the new Marmaris Museum, which is also worth visiting to learn more about the region's history.

The Hafsa Sultan Caravanserai is not only an architectural heritage site but also a place where history meets modernity. It is always lively, especially during holidays and events. This is one of the main attractions of Marmaris that you should see to experience the spirit of the Ottoman era and broaden your horizons.
